Tony Schwartz, Who Wrote “The Art of the Deal” for President Trump, Said Trump “Has an Absence of a Soul” and “An Absence of a Heart.” Schwartz Calls the Money he’s Made from the Book “Blood Money.”

Tony Schwartz was paid $250,000 upfront to ghostwrite the 1987 bestseller “The Art of the Deal” for President Trump. Schwartz also still collects half of all royalties generated from the book (Zuckerman, Farhi, 2019). While speaking with CBS News chief Washington correspondent Major Garrett for a May 2019 episode of The Takeout Podcast, Schwartz said that Trump is empty inside and that Trump’s heart and soul are absent. Further, Schwartz called the money he’s earned from the book “blood money,” and he’s donated his book earnings from the last two and a half years to charity (Zuckerman, Farhi).
